'Sonny' Wilson = Chief Raphael J. 'Sonny' Wilson = Chief Raphael J. "Sonny" Wilson, USN (Ret.), age 58, of Aiken, South Carolina, died Sunday, June 13, 1993 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. A native of Valliant, Oklahoma, Chief Wilson was a son of the late Raphael L. and Blanche Williamson Wilson. He was a member of the Choctaw Nation. He retired from the U. S. Navy in August, 1973, after 22 years of service. He taught in the JROTC programs in Texas and also in South Carolina after moving there nine years ago from Pasadena, Texas. He then retired from the Aiken County School District. He was a member of the Langley-Bath-Clearwater Lions Club, and had served as former president. He was a member of the American Genealogical Society, and the Oklahma State Historical Society. Survivors include his wife, Vera Wilson, a Son, Raphael Dean Wilson of Aiken, SC; two daughters, Pamela Carlile of Aiken, SC; and Teresa Lind of Metairie, La.; and five grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, June 18, 1993 at 2:p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Valliant with Reverend David Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in the Valliant Cemetery under the direction of Norwood/Coffey-Leonard Funeral Home in Idabel.
