Wilson Dated: Hand dated July 5, 1924 Newspaper: McCurtain County, Oklahoma newspaper = FORMER TRIBAL OFFICER DEAD AT FORT TOWSON= W.W. WILSON WEALTHY CHOCTAW INDIAN, FORMER MEMBER OF GOVERNOR'S STAFF BURIED WEDNESDAY W. W. Wilson, 67 years old, life time resident of the Fort Towson section and long prominent in the affairs of the Choctaw Indians, died at his home at Fort Towson, west of here early Tuesday morning. He had been ill for several months with a complication of diseases and the end was not unexpected. Mr. Wilson was on of the most widely known and influential men in that section. He was a quarter blood Choctaw. He served as treasurer of the Choctaw tribe in 1895-96 and was a member of the Choctaw senate from what was then Towson county for several years. At one time he was a candidate for principal chief of the Choctaws; he was a colonel on Governor Williams Staff from 1915 to 1919. Mr. Wilson also was one of the wealthiest men in Choctaw county. For many years he and John Wilson, a brother, were the most extensive cattle raisers in southeastern Oklahoma. They disposed of their interests in 1905. Wilson was in the mercantile business at Doaksville and later Fort Towson for many years. He was the first president of the Choctaw Exchange bank of Hugo which later merged with the First National bank. At one time he was interested in six banks. Wilson was reared near the site of the present town of Fort Towson, where he lived all his life. He was married three times, three children by his second marriage are dead. He is survived by his third wife, two children, a grandson and a brother, Rafe Wilson of Valliant, Okla.
