He was 71. Born in Stidham, Okla., he moved to California in 1943 at the age of 16 to pick fruit with his family. But he spent most of his adult life in the building trade. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for 50 years and since 1969 had been a general contractor in Sebastopol. Family members say his special interest was watching his grandchildren play sports, sometimes driving three hours to a Little League game or a high school football game. Until his health declined he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, puttering around in his vegetable garden and keeping Wednesday night poker dates with his friends. He was a member of the Elks Club. He and his wife, Neioma, would have celebrated their 51st anniversary on Sept. 26. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John L. Barber of Sebastopol; his daughter, Cathy Collins of Santa Rosa; his brother, Paul Barber of Cassville, Mo., another brother, Lloyd Barber of Lindsay; two sisters, Lois Helton and Ossie Jackson, both of Lindsay; five grandchildren; a nephew; and several grand-nieces. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hessel Church. The family suggests donations to the Hessel Church Building Fund, 5060 Hessel Ave., Sebastopol 95472. Pleasant Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary of Sebastopol handled arrangements. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McIntosh County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/mcintosh/mcintosh.html
