He was born on Tuesday, June 19, 1917 in Foreman, Arkansas to Charles Andrew and Tennie Henry Bush. One of 11 children, Odell moved with his family as a young boy to Asher, Oklahoma, where he grew up and received his education , graduating from Asher High School. While in High School he was an all-star quarterback. After graduation he worked in the oil fields as a pumper. Odell owned a Gravel Trucking Company and was an independent contractor for Pottawatomie County. He later moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he worked as a maintenance mechanic for Mercury Oil Refinery. He married Georgia Ann Pettit on August 10, 1939 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Odell worked for Thycoll, and was instrumental in building the parts that were on the first space capsule that went to the moon. In 1965 he worked for Laughlin Bros, where he dug missile silo’s. He and his wife traveled and held revivals and pastored churches. He raised quarter horses, and was a member of University Heights Assembly of God Church. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Myrtle Lodge in Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Georgia Ann Bush on August 15, 2005 and his brothers and sisters. Odell is survived by his son, Nathan and his wife Jean, of Checotah, OK, grandchildren, Dwayne Bush, Oklahoma City, OK, Teresa Rowland, McLoud, OK, Stephen and his wife Shannon, Muskogee, OK, Jodie Lynn Henderson and her husband, David, Eufaula, OK, 8 great-grandchildren , 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Frona Hunnsaker and her husband Robert, Shawnee, OK. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006, Garrett-Smith Funeral Home, 311 SW 2nd St. Checotah, O K. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 at the Pavilion in Vista Cemetery, Asher, OK, with full Masonic Rites provided by the members of Myrtle Lodge of Oklahoma City, OK. The family of Odell Bush entrusted services to Garrett-Smith Funeral Home & Crematory Service of Checotah, OK.
