She was 63. Hoback's grandmother, Rosanna White, was a full-blooded Creek Indian, originating from the Muskogee Indian Tribe in Oklahoma. Born in Stidham, Okla., Hoback came to Stockton at an early age. She told stories of the family being "dirt poor" and living in a house without a floor," said her daughter, Sheree Sanders of Windsor. "She said the family had to pick cotton upon arriving in California." Hoback carried her Indian roll card certifying her citizenship with the Muskogee tribe. Moving to Santa Rosa in her 20s, she worked 18 years as a psychiatric technician at the then Sonoma State Hospital. Not content in semi- retirement, she returned to work as a reading instructor at the Open Bible Christian Academy in Santa Rosa for about five years before again retiring. "She was devoted to her family," Sanders said. Hoback thrived on visits with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, travel and trips to the Lake Tahoe area. She and her husband, Roger Hoback of Santa Rosa, were married 23 years. Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by another daughter, Denise Lewers of Windsor; a son, Mark Hoback of Santa Rosa; brother, Nick Tinney of Lompoc; sisters, Louise Brackett of Webb City, Mo., and Erline DeMay of Lancaster; a half-brother, Dusty Pittman of Holdenville, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A gathering is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the North Bay Christian Faith Center, 912 Link Lane in Santa Rosa. Memorial donations are preferred to the Sonoma County Indian Health Project, Attention: Gale Knight, 791 Lombard Court, Suite 101, Santa Rosa 95407. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McIntosh County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/mcintosh/mcintosh.html
