All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Edna Henry Services: Thurs., Oct. 4, 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held for Mary Edna Henry on October 4, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Doughty-Calhoun-OMeara with graveside services at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Services will be officiated by Doug Davis of Calvary Bible Church. Mary Edna Henry was born in Brush Hill, Oklahoma, McIntosh County, March 18, 1910 and passed away September 30, 2001. She married Luther Henry, August 18, 1927. They moved to Santa Ana, California in 1941. Two years later they moved to Bakersfield where they bought the Chester Lane Market and various grocery stores and meat markets in Bakersfield over the years. They were avid square dancers for many years. They managed a dance hall where Edna played the piano and Luther was the Deputy Sheriff. They were very involved with camping and co-found the Foresters Camper Club. They enjoyed their royalty when Luther was Chief Ranger and she first lady of the Independent Order of Foresters. After retirement Edna worked part time for her good friends Floyd and Carolyn. Edna was pre-deceased by her husband Luther after 72 years of marriage, her son Norman Henry and granddaughter Janet Waters. Edna was a grand lady, loved by everyone and is a great loss to this family and her many friends. She is survived by son, Bob Henry and wife Nancy; daughter, Karla Armitage and brother, George Knight; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
