California # 1586 Norma Jean Herren passed away December 30, 1995 in Fortuna after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 65. Norma was born Nov. 2, 1930 in Checotah, Okla. and came to California in 1950 where she raised her family in various locations while following her husband in the line of work with the railroad, until finally settling in Fortuna in 1958. Norma worked many years for Dionne's Family Restaurant and the Hobbit. She then went on to help establish the deli at Del's liquors. Upon retiring she enjoyed life and her many friends. She is survived by her mother, Ova Collins of Garden Grove; her Deloras Kelly of Garden Grove; her daughters, Natalie Burton of Auburn, Wash., and Rodena Barchus of Fortuna; her son, Rodney Herren and his wife Rachel of Petaluma; her grandchildren, Barbara Burton of Chico, Tara Herren of Petaluma, David C. Herren of Petaluma and Michael Barchus of Fortuna; and her numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Herren, in 1985; her brother Marion Collins, in 1986 and by a grandson, David M. Herren, in 1984. Friends are invited to attend memorial services on Friday, Jan 5, 1996 at 3 p.m. at the Fireman's Hall on 11th Street in Fortuna. A reception will follow immediately at the Fireman's Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary.
