He was born January 31, 1927 in Roff, Oklahoma to Elvin Cordell (Jack) Moran and Johnnie Lee (Ussery) Moran, both now deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Gwen (Mitchell) Moran, in 2005. A younger brother, Richard Moran of Tecumseh, OK passed away in 2006. “Papa”, as he was appropriately named by his granddaughters, was a 38 year resident of Checotah. He attended Yale High School and served his country as a merchant marine in World War II. After the war he worked in Oklahoma City as an ambulance driver, while learning to follow in his father’s electrical contracting trade. He married Gwen on October 16, 1948 in Oklahoma City. After living and working in several states, mostly in the Southwest, they finally returned to Checotah in 1969 and built their home on Gwen’s original family homestead. He was a member of the Church of Christ and well known in the community as someone who could talk about anything. He always seemed to be a ringleader for practical jokes and was quick to let you know his feelings and give his opinion, especially at the Katy Cafe. Jack enjoyed politics and was a loyal Democrat. During the 1960’s and 1970’s he was often told of his likeness to President Johnson. He liked to tell people he was L.B.J.’s brother “Sam”, for fun. Jack worked many years as an electrical contractor installing and maintaining power lines for cities, public utility companies and others, including the larger cross-country electric power lines. In 1966, after an earlier serious auto accident, he invented and patented the first non-breakable electric meter cover for homes and businesses. He founded a successful Oklahoma manufacturing company, M-R-S, Inc. and served as President until 2001. He is survived by his son; Jerry D. Moran, and wife Laura of Purcell, OK, their daughter Summit; granddaughter Devyn Moran of Ft. Gibson, OK; granddaughter Melanie Milsap of Shreveport, LA, her husband Mark and great grandchildren Makenzie and Mason; granddaughter Season Reed of Muskogee, OK, her husband Shannon and great granddaughters Trinity and Addison. Also surviving Jack is daughter Cyndi David of Edmond, OK, her husband Jim; granddaughter Taylor David of Edmond, OK; granddaughter Regan Raff and husband Michael of Oklahoma City, OK and new twin great grandsons, Oliver Patrick and Benjamin Payne. Services will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery in Checotah, OK, on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Everett Dunn officiating, under the direction of Hampton Mortuary of Checotah, OK. ========================================================================== Return to McIntosh County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/mcintosh/mcintosh.html
