"Bill" EUFAULA - Memorial service for former Lawton resident Dr. William E. "Bill" Neptune, 74, Eufaula, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vivian Baptist Church, Eufaula, with William Mitchell officiating. Another memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Shawnee First Baptist Church with pastors Paul Calmes and William Mitchell officiating. Dr. Neptune died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at his home. Arrangements are by Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee. He was born April 24, 1918, in Lawton to E.E. Neptune and Mary Louise Green. He attended Lawton Public Schools and graduated as valedictorian of Lawton High School in 1946. He graduated summa cum laude from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1950. He received a master"s degree in chemistry and physics in 1952 and a Ph.D. in 1954 from the University of Oklahoma. He was involved in many professional associations during his life. He married Mary Lu Ligon in June 1950 and they moved to Shawnee in 1954. He became an assistant professor of chemistry at Oklahoma Baptist University in 1954 and retired in 1980 as provost of the university. After retirement he worked as national consultant for in-service guidance with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. During his professional career, he worked with colleges and universities throughout the United States. In Shawnee, he was a member of the Lion"s Club, the YMCA Board of Directors, the Salvation Army Board of Directors, and Sine Nomine, a community choral group. He was a member of Shawnee First Baptist Church and later a member of Vivian Baptist Church, Eufaula. Survivors include his wife, Shawnee; two daughters and a son-in-law: Jennifer and Clyde Woods and Stephanie Scrutchins, all of Shawnee; three grandsons: Christopher Toothaker and Sean and Evan Scrutchins, all of Shawnee; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Carole Neptune, Lawton.
