He moved to Kern County when he was a little boy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Shead Newton; his grandson, Joshua Hansen and grand-daughter, Natalie Hernandez. He is survived by his wife, Edna; his sister, Edna Mulchay and husband, Rick; his brothers, Joe, John and Jimmy Newton; his children, Paula Burnett and husband, David, Donna Slifka and husband, Richard, Stan Levin and wife, Andrea, Kelly Hansen, Patricia Doty and husband, Lee, Karen Powel and husband Richard; grandchildren, Brandon and wife, Alicia and Wendy Burnett, April Randle and husband, Jason, Lisa Ellis and husband, Tracy, Brande Reneau and husband, Brian, Michael Powell, Tina Staube and husband, Brian, Jason and Brandon Levin, Heidi Sherman and husband, Timmy, Matt and Sarah Hansen.; great-grandchildren, Jessica, David Taylor, Blake, Justin, Dustin, Dereke, Kaleb, Christopher, Richele, and Ashlyn. Paul lived in Arvin and Bakersfield for most of his life. He attended Haven Dr. Grammar School and Hill Top Jr. High in Arvin and Kern County High in Bakersfield. He served his country in the Navy in WWII and Korea. One of his fondest memories was when he met John Stienbeck when he was 8 years old. He was recently interviewed by the Californian about his family migrating to Kern County during the Dust Bowl Days. He was proud of his heritage and overcoming the hardships of that time. He loved to tell his war stories, gardening, and being an armature weatherman with his two sons-in-law. He was a man who loved his country, family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is now with his Lord Father. We will all miss him dearly. There will be a memorial service at Bakersfield Family Funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14.
