All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Eugene Register Guard 1 Feb 2004 Ray Newman The funeral service will be held Feb. 3 for Ray Newman of Eugene, who died Jan. 30 of age-related causes. He was 97. Newman was born March 28, 1906, in Ozark, Ark., to Lace and Julia Knuckles Newman. He married Louise Killough on Oct. 9, 1928, in Eufaula, Okla. She died on Nov. 25, 1979. Newman married Ruth Lydick on June 11, 1983, in Eugene. She died on Jan. 20, 2002. Newman lived on and off in Lane County since 1937. He went to school in Lamar, Ark., and later worked as a certified welder on a number of big projects such as the Greenpeter Dam and the Boardman coal-fired plant. He enjoyed reading the Bible, and playing the harmonica and Solitaire. Newman also liked fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and the Pipefitters and Plumbers Union, Local 290. Survivors include a son, Dennis of Pahrump, Nev.; and eight stepchildren. Two sons, James and Michael, and a daughter, Juanita, died previously. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home Tuesday's funeral will be at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Memories, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eugene Mission.
