All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Rose Hill Cemetery--OKC OK Wheeler Sr., Joe Davis Joe Davis Wheeler, Sr. passed away Sunday, August 17, 2003, surrounded by his family. He was born November 5, 1923, in Okmulgee, OK, to Floyd Henderson Wheeler and Dona Wheeler. His father, Floyd, came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in the late 1880's. His father was a member of the first graduating class of the OU Law School, a path his son would later follow. The family moved to OKC from Okmulgee where he graduated from Central High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity until he was called to serve his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps. He served in Burma and China where he flew the 'hump'. After WWII he graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law where he was on the Law Review and named to the Order of the Coif for high academic standing. On August 8, 1947, Joe married his 'sweet', Orma Lue Carlton.Joe practiced law in OKC for 51 years. Twentysix of those years he spent practicing along side his son, Joe, Jr., until his retirement in 2001 at the age of 77. In 2000, the Oklahoma County Bar Association honored him for 50 years of service to the legal profession. He will be missed by clients, friends and colleagues, whom he honorably and ably served throughout his career. Joe was also a 32nd Degree Mason and was instrumental in helping to form the original Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Besides practicing law, he enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built at Lake Eufaula. He was an avid fisherman and loved OU football. His parents, Floyd and Dona Wheeler, and his twin brother, Jim, preceded him in death. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lue, and his three children and three grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Joe, Jr., his wife, Arlene, and their son, Lane, OKC; Cindy Renk, her husband, Kevin, and their children, Kara Ann and Kyle, Edmond, OK; Shelly Ashley, DVM, and her husband, Stephen, Gulf Breeze, FL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Fri., Aug. 22, at the Smith & Kernke Chapel, 14624 N. May, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park, OKC.
