GEORGE, born at Dover, Del., October 9, 1822. Graduated at West Point 1842. Served in Florida, Texas, and through the Mexican war. Promoted to brevet captain for gallantry. Appointed major of 14th Infantry in May, 1861, and brigadier-general in September. Fought through the Peninsula campaign, and made major-general of volunteers November, 1862. Led 5th corps at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and was otherwise actively engaged till removed to Fort Leavenworth in 1864. Died at Fort Brown, Texas, February 9, 1880.
