JOHN BROWN, born in Upson county, Ga., February 6, 1832. Studied law. Entered Confederate service in which he rose to rank of lieutenant-general. Commanded under Lee at Appomattox, and was several times wounded. Elected to U.S. Senate, 1873. Re-elected in 1879, and resigned. Elected Governor of Georgia, 1886. Re-elected to U.S. Senate for term beginning March, 1891.
