SIMON BOLIVAR, born in Hart county, Ky., April 1, 1823. Educated at West Point, and served with distinction throughout the Mexican war. Joined the confederacy in 1861, and left in command of Fort Donelson, which he surrendered to Grant, February 16, 1862. He was afterwards a division commander at Chickamauga and Chattanooga. Participated in various actions during the war and surrendered his forces to General Canby, May 26, 1865.
