ALBERT SIDNEY, born in Kentucky 1803. Graduated at West Point 1826. Entered Texan service 1836. Appointed commander-in-chief 1838, and Secretary of War 1840. Fought through the Mexican war. Received major's commission in U.S. army 1849. Led Utah expedition of 1857, with rank of brevet brigadier. Transferred to Department of Pacific. Resigned his national commission May, 1861, and entered Confederate army. Commander-in-chief at battle of Shiloh April 6, 1862, on which date he was killed in action.
