FREDERICK WILLIAM, born at Salem, Mass., December 18, 1821. Engaged in surveying Pacific Railroad routes. In 1861 was aide to General McClellan, and fought at battle of Rich Mountain. Made brigadier-general. Wounded at Ball's Bluff. Repelled the Confederates at Hancock. Sickness compelled him to resign. Died in Pawpaw, Va., March 2, 1862.
