HENRY JACKSON, born in Detroit, Mich.,September 14, 1819. Graduated at West Point 1830. Served on Canada border and distinguished himself in Mexican war, where he was twice wounded. Made captain in 1852, and major in 1861. Held an artillery command at Bull Run, and became aide to General McClellan. Made brigadier of volunteers September, 1862. As chief of artillery in Army of Potomac, he fought at Gettysburg, and through Wilderness campaign to Petersburg. Made brigadier and major-general in regular army. Retired in 1883, and became governor of Soldier's Home, at Washington. Died February 11, 1889.
