   VAN DORN, GEN. EARL, born in Mississippi 1823. Graduated at West Point
   1842. Entered Confederate service 1861, and commanded at battle of Pea
   Ridge, Ark., March 7 and 8, 1862. Repulsed before CorinthOctober,
   1862. Killed by Dr. Lowry in Maury county, Tenn., May, 1863.
