SIMON GODELL, born in New Hampshire, august 9, 1824. Practiced law. Entered Civil war and participated in both battles of Bull Run, Chantilly, Antietam, and Fredericksburg. Commissioned brigadier May, 1863, and participated in Vicksburg operations. Commanded a brigade in Wilderness campaign. On June 16 stormed Confederate lines at Petersburg and captured 1000 prisoners. Mustered out of service as a major-general. Served in New Hampshire Legislature 1866-68, as speaker of the lower house.
