GEORGE D., born in Seneca Falls, N.Y., December 18, 1835. Graduated at West Point, 1856, and assigned to 1st Cavalry. Severly wounded on the frontiers. In 1861, cavalry instructor at West Point. Entered Union army September 14, 1861. Promoted to brigadier-general of volunteers, April 28, 1862. Served with distinction through the campaign of Shenandoah, Northern Virginia, and on the Rappahannock. Mortally wounded at fredericksburg, December 13, 1862.
