   ELLSWORTH, COL. EPHRAIM E., born in New York state, April 23, 1837.
   Organized a regiment of Zouaves early in the Civil war. Shot by the
   proprietor of a Confederate hotle at Alexandria, for tearing down a
   Confederate flag May 24, 1861.
