ALEXANDER McD., born in Ohio April 22, 1831. Graduated at West Point 1852. Served against the Apaches 1858-61. Commanded a regiment in battle of Bull Run, and a division of the army of Ohio in the Tennessee and Mississippi campaigns. Brevetted colonel for gallant service at Shiloh, and finally made brigadier and major-general for bravery at Perryville and other places. After the war, became colonel of regular infantry, and assigned to command in Arizona 1891.
