ANSON GEORGE, born in Steubenville, Ohio, October 10, 1835. Entered Union army 1861, as captain, and soon promoted to colonel. Served in army of Cumberland, and with Sherman in his Atlanta campaign. Commanded a brigade in Virginia. Brevetted brigadier-general. Sat in Congress 1877-83 as a Republican from New York. Made Secretary of Senate 1890.
