DAVID McMURTRIE, born in Huntingdon county, Pa., April 10, 1833. Graduated at West Point 1855. Entered Civil war as colonel of Pennsylvania cavalry regiment, and engaged in Peninsula campaign. Commanded a division of cavalry in Army of Potomac, and August, 1864, as major-general of volunteers, had full command of the cavalry of that army. United Stated Consul at Prague, 1874. Elected Auditor-General of Pennsylvania, 1891.
