BENJAMIN HENRY, born in Pittsburg, Pa., July 8, 1826. Joined the volunteer service from Illinois in 1861 and by December, 1862, had a command of a brigade of cavalry. Actively engaged in the cavalry service in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Brevetted brigadier and major-general in United States Army in 1867. After the war commanded the district of Indian Territory, and in November, 1886, that of New Orleans.
