Pvt Guthrie Logan Son of Mrs Rebecca Timpey; born Jan 1, 1897, Canadian Co; educated in Caddo Co. schools; When war was declared he tried to enlist in the US Navy, but was rejected by failing to pass the medical examination; he then volunteered for Aviation Service, and as soon as he could enter that branch of service, Aug 3, 1917; attached first with 63rd Aero Squadron at Kelly Field and later to the 475th Aero Squadron. It was with this Squadron, Medical Officers Training Corps, that he sailed overseas on Feb 28, 1918. Served in France until he was sent to Chattis Hill Hospital at Winchester, England, for (2) wks, and died there with influenza, Jul 1918, thus giving all in the service of his country. Sill; trained with Company F, 146th Inf, 26th Div; embarked overseas in July, 1918, and landed in France and assigned to Headquarters Company, 167th Inf, 42nd Div; fought in the battles at St. Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne, and was killed Oct 16, 1918, in action while attacking a nest of machine guns. He lies in the Amer-ican Cemetery No. 1232, Grave No. 85, Argonne. After arriving in France his parents received only one letter from him. He sleeps, this hero, in the Argonne, where, amidst the red carnage of war, he held high the standard of Liberty, and on that great altar gave up his life. The world cried out that it was faltering on the verge of destruction; this hero and the thousands of his brother soldiers answered the cry and saved mankind to Freedom and Christianity. History can record no greater deed. His name will endure forever. 68,y CHOATE, Joseph D. B, 141st Inf., 36th Bn; embarked overseas in July, 1918, and landed in France, and in the battle of Meuse-Argonne he made the supreme sacrifice Oct 8, 1919. He was KILLED IN ACTION. He died in the cause of Liberty and Peace. He carried the torch of. battle into and over the front; it only fell from his hand when death claimed him for a World Hero. He upheld the traditions of his forbears who came from a long line of fighters in Freedom's cause. Just before his departure for the front his mother received a letter in which he said he "was proud of his chance to serve his country." As long as history is written, the name of this young hero will shine resplendent in the galaxy of world heroes. 342,y CHOATE, Nathan W. Cpl Guthrie Logan Son of Mrs Mary C. & Mr Charles S. Choate; born Sept 11, 1895. He attended the Guthrie high school, the Stillwater College & the Eugene College in Oregon. He volunteered for service on Aug 17, 1917, & trained with the 143rd Field Hospital, ilith Sani-tary Train, 36th Div, at Camp Bowie, TX. He sailed with them for France, July 11, 1918. Was on one battlefield twenty days.
