The name 'Sooners' has become synonymous with winning and success and the same hold trues (sic) with the winning track record of Sooner Foods goes back many generations with the first 'local' store being in Nebo, owned by the parents of James W. HOWE. After @@II, James W. and Opal ARMS HOWE purchased the CHANEY Grocery on the corner of W. Muskogee and Second Street and changed the name to HOWE's Grocery. In 1954 , the flagship store, Sooner Foods of Sulphur was opened by James W. HOWE and Mace WILLIAMS. The Sooner Foods tradition expanded with locations in Ardmore and Moore, which were later sold. In 1970, James Rae HOWE purchased Sooner Foods from his parents and continues to own and operate the store to this day. Mr. HOWE has since opened 2 additional locations in Davis and Tishomingo. Sooner Foods remains a strong family owned business in this community and has survived many difficult times including a fire which completely destroyed the building in 1983. This year marks a very important date for Sooner Foods as the business celebrates 50 years of business. Congratulations to James Rae HOWE, Mike BRADLEY and all the many employees, friends and customers of Sooner Foods."
