Large bodies move slowly." The materials had already been ordered. The first water works election was held in October 1905, and every voter in Davis except for 20 turned out. The "ROOSEVELT landslide" was 227-3, but two filed affidavits that they made a mistake and three were disqualified, so the official count was 226-1. In fact, CROSSETT knew that "Uncle" Knotty TRACY was the sole dissenting vote. "(He) ought to withdraw and let the result be unanimous," CROSSETT wrote. A technicality, however, had forced another election. Every train brings strangers to Davis and they all like Davis too, CROSSETT said. Pews were ordered by the Presbyterian church. Dr. W. B. STONE took charge of Dr. HALE's dental practice. "The dodtor looked at all the other Territory towns and says he likes the looks of Davis better than any of them. F. P. and son Pat HOWARD moved from Madill to take charge of the Star bakery. A. C. RHODES and Co., carpenters and contractors, opened a shop in the old PAUL building on East Main. Santa Fe officials came in their private car to see the proposed route to Sulphur. The route as surveyed came into town in the southern part. "Would you like to take an electric car at the Santa Fe depot and ride over to Turner Falls to spend a day?" CROSSETT asked. An electric plant was expected to be completed by March 1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Murray County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/murray/murray.htm
