Battle went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 30, 2005. He was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma on February 24, 1915 to Elizabeth Meadors Battle and James Bailey Battle. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ellen Matthews Battle of the home and children Frank Battle and wife Mila of Oklahoma City, Dr. John Battle and wife Regina of Claremore, Oklahoma, Judy Battle Keeton and husband Gerald of Oklahoma City, David Battle and wife Phyllis of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Kyle Keeton and wife Melissa, Kara Keeton, Dr. Justin Battle and wife Stephanie, Brandon Battle and wife Darla, Mindy Jones and husband Jimmy, Blake Keeton, Heather Estes and husband Gant, Brian Battle, Brent Battle, Jennifer M. Battle, Christopher Battle, Jeremy Battle and great granddaughter Karly Battle. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Adair and brother Dick Battle. He graduated from Classen High School and attended Oklahoma City University. James was a successful businessman, beginning his career at the age of 21 as the owner of James Battle Insurance Agency. He later became active in commercial real estate, home building and real estate development. He was a man of great integrity and was very well respected in the business community. Since his youth, James was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, serving on various boards and holding positions of leadership. In later years, he and Ellen were charter members of Spring Creek Baptist Church of Oklahoma City where he remained a member until his death. James was active with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and served on the Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Baptist Laymen's Corporation and on the Board of Directors of Baptist Hospital of Oklahoma City. He was a member of the Men's Dinner Club and the Sooner Dinner Club as well as the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. In addition, he was active in Gideon's International and the Rotary Club. James enjoyed boating with his family on Lake Tenkiller and in later years, traveling with Ellen in their motor home. He will be missed but remembered fondly by all those who knew him. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Leo Guerrero and those who helped lovingly care for him at Bellevue Nursing Center for the past 9 years. Services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2005 at Spring Creek Baptist Church, 11701 N. MacArthur, Oklahoma City with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 N. Kelly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spring Creek Baptist Church or the Gideon's International.
