Williard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment was in Dougherty Cemetery with Cowley-Krien Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Born December 13, 1947 in Redding, Calif. to Charles Ray Hunter and Billie Shurley, she died Tuesday, April 20 in Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She moved to Sulphur at an early age and graduated from Sulphur High School in 1966. She later attained an associates degree from the University of Oklahoma. She began work for the late Gene Copenhaver while still in high school. She later went to work at the Sulphur Veterans Center, working her way up to administrator before retiring. She had the distinction of being the first Oklahoma woman to be selected as a Veterans Center administrator and the first non-veteran in the United States to become an administrator. She was a Baptist by faith. Survivors include her mother, Billie Hunter, Sulphur; one son, Brent Bird, Sulphur; three grandchildren and one sister, Jan Hunter, Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. Pallbearers were Les Caldwell, Preston Evans, Joe Ramer, Mickey Warren, Billy Frank Warren and C. J. Jenkins.
