Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Bumgarner officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Mr. Evans was born in Deshler, Nebraska on May 21, 1924, to Florence E. (Giffen) and John Empson Evans. He grew up and attended school in Borger, Texas and was a 1951 graduate of the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy after serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Lillie Dell Fogle on October 22, 1953, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. After four years in the oil industry, he served 29 years with the Department of Interior, U.S. Geological Survey and retired in Denver, Colo. in 1982, as the Field Director of the Central region. Mr. Evans is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lillie Dell Evans, Sulphur; daughter, Catherine Evans, Tomball, Texas; brother, John Houser Evans; niece, Debra Denise Ernst, Lubbock, Texas; and nephew, John Wendell Evans of Amarillo, TX.
