Eggenberg, M.D. Funeral services for Dr. David M. Eggenberg will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Davis, Oklahoma, with Rev. James Densman and Rev. Finis Steelman officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Davis, under the direction of Hale's Funeral Home. Dr. Eggenberg died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 75. He was born on March 27, 1930 to Elizabeth (Pfortmiller) and David Milton Eggenberg, Sr. in Gentry, Arkansas. He and Carolynn Hill were married on June 3, 1954 at Davis. This marriage was blessed with 51 1/2 years. After graduating from Ravia High School in 1948, Dr. Eggenberg continued his education at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from East Central University and in 1955, graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. In July of 1956, Dr. Eggenberg opened a private practice in Davis, Oklahoma. It was this private practice that would bring him into the lives of so many people. Throughout his medical career Dr. Eggenberg served as Chief of Staff of several area hospitals including, Arbuckle Memorial, Pauls Valley General and Wynnewood Hospital. He also served as the Murray County Coroner for many years. After 43 years of loyal dedication to the people of Davis and many surrounding communities, Dr. Eggenberg decided to retire and sell his practice in December of 1999. He had the vision and hopes to retire to his ranch, but fate had a different calling for him. With less than a year into his retirement, Dr. Eggenberg was asked to join the staff of Oklahoma Oncology and Hematology in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He served as a Coverage Physician in the Cancer Care unit until his death. Dr. Eggenberg was a true civic minded person for his community. He served on numerous boards and many organizations throughout the county and state. The most prized position he held was serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at the First Baptist Church in Davis for over 20 years. Dr. Eggenberg was currently on the Board of Regents for Murray State College. He was a member of Gideons International, the National Cattlemen's Association, the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and the Murray County Cattlemen's Association and a past member of the American Hereford Association. He was affiliated with S.A.N .E. (Sooner Alcohol and Narcotics Education Commission). He was an honorary member of the Davis High School Alumni, as well as a past board member of the Davis Public Schools' Board of Education. He was a past member of the First National Bank of Davis Board of Directors and was instrumental in the opening of the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital. Dr. Eggenberg volunteered his medical services at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly for over 20 years. Dr. Eggenberg will long be remembered for the true compassion and care he extended to everyone. His bedside manner, which many have witnessed, was second to none. His genuine devotion to Christ, his family and this community shall remain legendary in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolynn, of the home, one son, David Eggenberg, III, of Davis, Oklahoma; one daughter, Karen Kapella and husband, Tom, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; and one brother, John H. Eggenberg, of Tishomingo. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Helen Auchard. Pallbearers will be the members of Dr. Eggenberg's Sunday School Class including Danny Freeman, Grant Whitaker, Coley Brewer, Ed Warner, Brent Gee, Mark Rogers, Larry Robinson, Bob Dulaney, John Murray, Gary Bowles, Greg Parker and Boomer Digby. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church.
