Steve Martin officiating and Pastor Tim Emons assisting. He was born Jan. 30, 1936, in Davis to Roy C. and Lavada (Rushing) Oakley and died June 7, 2003, at his home. He attended first grade at Valley Brook Elementary in Oklahoma City and attended and graduated from Davis High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served one tour in Korea. In 1958, he graduated from Murray State College in Tishomingo and completed his education of mortuary science at Gupton Jones College in Dallas, Texas. Oakley continued his education at Central State University, East Central University and the University of Oklahoma where he obtained his master's degree in education. His first teaching position was at Truman Elementary in Oklahoma City in 1970; from 1973 to 1984, he was elementary principal with the Prague Independent School District. In 1992, Oakley finished his career at Spark's Independent School District as superintendent and was a lifelong educator for the state of Oklahoma. He was a lifelong member of Capitol Hill Church of Christ in Oklahoma City and a member of American Legion Post 11 in Prague. He was preceded in death by his parents. Oakley is survived by: his wife of 42 years, Wanda Jo; two sons, Royce of Prague and Roger of Pottsboro, Texas; a daughter, Karen Duncan of Yukon; a sister, Murlene Lewis of Oklahoma City, and eight grandchildren, Laura, Royden, Stephanie, Garen, Jaimie, Katelyn, Rachel and Ansleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion Post 11 in Prague.
