Pannell Kenneth H. Pannell of Hugo, was born February 12, 1927 in Oklahoma City to Minor Walter "Jack" Pannell and Virginia Maude Cox. He left us Friday, Sept. 29 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 79. Kenneth retired form the USAF in 1967 after working several jobs in the Sulphur and Davis area; he found the job that meant everything to him. He had worked with Veterans through the American Legion for many years, so when he went to work as a Service Officer for the Oklahoma Dept. of Veterans Affairs it was work he loved. Kenneth served as Department Commander of the American Legion 1995-96 where he was a life member; he had served on the Board of the American Legion Children's Home at Ponca City for the last 10 years. In 2001 he was appointed to the War Veterans Commission where he served until his death. Kenneth was very active in the Masonic Lodge, belonging to both Lodge #144 Sulphur, OK and #217 in Hugo, OK. He was also a life member of the VFW, DAV and AMVETS. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother, "Mary Ruth Austin;" stepson, Bill Burroughs and great grandson, Jacob Michael Pannell. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley, eight children and stepchildren, Michael and Jo Pannell of Sulphur, OK, Debra and Chris Primavera of Allen, TX, Kevin and Anna Pannell of El Paso, TX, David and Roxanne Pannell of Sulphur, OK, Laura Schaeffer of Dallas, TX, Rickey and Susan Johnson of Burleson, TX, Ann and Bill McCready of Rogers, AR, Brenda and Dave Roys of Oklahoma City, OK, daughter-in-law, Frances Burroughs of Wister, OK; two sisters, Drucilla Doan of Lorton, VA, Joann Miller, Ada, OK; three brothers, Walter Pannell of Tyler, TX, Jim Pannell of Cedar Hill, TX and Bob Pannell of Henryetta, OK; 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was loved and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers Kenneth wanted donations made to the American Legion Children's Home ­ 1300 Summers PI.-Ponca City OK 74604 Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Prater- Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo with Rev. Ed Bernard officiating assisted by Bill Boatner. Interment will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery in Hugo with Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
