"Dick" Pierce Services for Ruben L. "Dick" Pierce, 87, Lone Grove, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16 at the First Baptist Church in Lone Grove with Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will be in Lone Grove Cemetery with Clagg Funeral Home, Sulphur, in charge of arrangements. Born January 21, 1919 in Lone Grove to Thomas Richard Pierce and Sally Jeanette Sermons Pierce, he died Monday, Feb. 13 in Sulphur. He grew up in the Lone Grove and Ardmore area and worked at the Westheimer-Daube Ranches as a boy. He later worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the building of structures in Platt National Park. He married Merle Collins on June 3, 1939 in Sulphur. Mr. Pierce was a sales representative for Southland Dairy Division. He enjoyed calf roping and steer roping and trained horses and dogs. He also supervised the building of the Lone Grove Senior Citizens' building. A veteran of WW II, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the DAV. Surviving are his wife, Merle, Sulphur; two sons, Jimmie L. Pierce and his wife, Beverly, Lawton and Gary E. Pierce, Lone Grove; two brothers, Pete Pierce, Martha, Texas and A. C. Pierce, Bangs, Texas; four grandchildren, Laura, Kerri, Meredith and Stephen and six great grandchildren, Brooke, Dylan, Alex, Sarah, Eliza and Quinn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Pallbearers will be Archie Welch, Fred Boyd, Jerry Jackson, L. A. Hattensty and Michael Weaver. Military honors will be conducted by a Ft. Sill Honors' team. Memorials may be made to the Lone Grove Senior Citizens' building.
