He graduated from Berlin High School in 1960 and from SWOSU, Weatherford in 1964. He had been a resident of Garden City since 1973 moving from Eastern Kansas. He was a retired science teacher having taught at the Garden City Community College from 1973-1984 and Sublete High School from 1985-1997. He was a member of the First Christian Church and past board chairman of the church in Garden City. In May of 1964, he married Roberta Still at Weatherford, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, one son, Gregory S. Rhodes, Garden City, Kansas; one daughter, Bridget D. Meyers, Garden City, Kansas; one sister, Carolyn Chalfant, Cheyenne, Oklahoma; his father, Weldon C. Rhoades, Clinton, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Adrian Zane McElroy and Colt Jacob McElroy of Garden City, Kansas; three nieces, Gena Bryan, Jaclyn Hodge and Brook Hodge, Sayre, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his mother, a son, Adrian Scott Rhodes and a brother, Phillip Warren Rhoades. Services were held Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Garden City, officiated by Reverend Donald Carter. Internment followed in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City, Kansas under the direction of Price & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church or the American Diabetes Association both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas.
