GEORGIA WARD, at the age of 88. The remains were taken to Oklahoma City for burial in the Fairlawn cemetery. Mrs. Ward accompanied the remains of her father, the funeral party being met at Purcell by her brother, WIL ROWAND. REV. MR. GAUGHEY of the Episcopal Church was also of the party. Mr. Rowland contracted a cold a few weeks ago and never seemed able to rally from the effects of it. He retained all his faculties until the last and about ten minutes before death, he slipped into what seemed to be a deep sleep. He was born in Cairo, Illinois and had made his home with Mrs. Ward for over thirty years. He pursued his vocation of cobbler until the time of his last illness. Granddad Rowand, as he was affectionately called by his many friends and acquaintances, was an interesting character. Well read, traveled and of more than ordinary intelligence, he was good "company" and he was beloved for his gentleness and unfailing good humor. He will be sorely missed by the members of his family. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Murray County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/murray/murray.htm
