"Bill" Schwake Services for retired Oklahoma School for the Deaf vocational instructor William O. "Bill" Schwake, 88, were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16 at the Sulphur United Methodist Church with Rev. Emery Mason officiating. Interment was at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home of Sulphur. Born October 29, 1915 in Bristow to Otto Wilhelm Schwake and Katherine Hewinkle Schwake, he died Friday, Feb. 13 in Sulphur. He married Marie B. Weeks on May 8, 1939 in Ardmore. She preceded him in death on September 9, 1997. Mr. Schwake for many years served as an OSD vocational instructor. He was a member of the Sulphur United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He also served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard during the 1930's. He lived in Bristow, Pawnee and Yale before moving to Sulphur and graduating from Sulphur High School in 1938. He later was a partner in the Bill and Loyd's hardware firm before accepting a job in the OSD vocational department. Many area truckers and CB operators knew him as "The Fixer." He operated a ham and citizen band radio repair shop for many years. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Carol Schwake, Wellston, Nick and Teresa Schwake, Sulphur and Christopher and Carol Schwake, Oklahoma City; one brother, Melvin Schwake, Sulphur; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Andrew Schwake and a brother, Otto Schwake. Pallbearers were Mike Schwake, Stephen Schwake, Thomas Schwake, Jason Schwake, Frank Baldwin and Carl Hickman. Honorary bearers were Caren Schwake Rickwalt, David Schwake, Jon Schwake, Mary Schwake Howard, Charlie Schwake, Nancy Schwake Hoffman, Sulphur Masonic Lodge members and his Sunday School class.
