Eddie Malphrus officiating. Interment was in Byars Cemetery with Cowley-Krien Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Born Nov. 6, 1924 to Simeon and Clara Casavant Grenier in Thorne, N.D., she died Thursday, Feb. 25 at Norman Regional Hospital. She married J. B. Newbern in 1951 and in 1969 she married Buck Stephens. In addition to both spouses, she was preceded in death by her mother and father; two brothers, Theodore and Harven Grenier and one sister, Velma Milange. Mrs. Stephens was born in North Dakota and moved to Oklahoma in 1950. She lived in the Byars community before moving to Sulphur in 1985. She was a member of the Byars First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Phinu Sorority. She was also a member the P.E.O. and the First Baptist Church of Sulphur. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Ann McGowen, Paoli, Julie McBroom, Ada and Marie Boyce, Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, James Newbern, Purcell and John Newbern, Byars; one stepson, Carl Stephens, Madill; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darrold Grenier, Minnesota and Orville Grenier, Rolette, N.D. and one sister, Lucille Hart, Pauls Valley.
