Willard McCartney officiating. Interment was at Dougherty Cemetery under the direction of Cowley-Krien Funeral Home. Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. He was born to Bertha and Hob Stephens on October 14, 1936 in Dougherty. He died January 15 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Va. He was married to Doris Stephens. He was born and raised in Dougherty. He lived and worked in California for many years. After he retired, he moved back to Dougherty for the remainder of his life. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Peggy Smith and Frankie Pinkston; and one half brother, Robert Medlock. Survivors are four daughters, Latana Locke, Sherry Stokes and Peggy VanCleve, Colonia Beach, Va. and Jami Sue Green, Oronogo, Mo.; three step- daughters, Verna Lerch, Mary Ann Frost, Stockton, Calif., and Cindy Owens, Woodland, Calif.; two step-sons, Dale Grismore and George Grismore, Stockton, Calif. one brother, David Stephens, Drake; one brother-in-law, W.M. "Bunk" Smith, Davis; one half sister, Linda; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Danny, Thomas, Terry, Tony and Daniel Stephens and Dale Smith.
