Shields Services for Otis Marion Shields, 80, Ada, will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. George Warren officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Kingston Cemetery in Kingston with Criswell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Shields died Saturday, August 27 at a local hospital. He was born December 27. 1924 at Hickory to Otis Smith and Opal Clair Ratcliffe Shields. He grew up in Sulphur and graduated from Fitzhugh High School. He attended East Central University. He married Bonnie Findley on December 26, 1946. Mr. Shields served in the U. S. Army from January 12, 1943 until December 4, 1945. He was a member of the 87th and 88th Infantry Division, stationed in the European Theatre. In the early years, he was a cabinet maker, having built a desk used by President Harry S. Truman, which still stands in the Harry S. Truman Museum. He also helped install the original pipes for the First United Methodist Church pipe organ while working for Emerson Sheet Metal in Ada. Mr. Shields was employed with Service Chevrolet/Service Auto Mall for 46 years, serving as service manager for 35 years before becoming salesman. While at Service Chevrolet, he was honored by General Motors by being selected as president of the "Only the Best Club." He also won many awards and trips around the world. Mr. Shields was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada and the Fentem Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Jean Findley Shields, of the home; a son, Charles Lynn Shields and his wife, Mary Ann Craddock Shields, Tecumseh; two granddaughters, Stacy Jeanne Engle and her husband, Dawson R. Engle, Shawnee, and Leslie Ann Shields, Austin; and a great granddaughter, Keagan Shea Engle. He was preceded in death by a brother, Garvin Shields, and a sister, Geraldine Briggs. The family requests those who wish may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 566, Ada, OK 74B20. Bearers will be Jim Cooper, Bobby Johnson, Steve Ely, Jerry Walston, Tony Gibson, and Joe Davidson.
