Smith, 84, Sulphur. Krien Funeral Home of Sulphur is in charge of arrangements. Born July 11, 1922 in Peoria, Ill. to Rudy and Pearl (Knott) Smith, he died Thursday, Jan. 18 in Sulphur. He married Irene M. "Rairty" (Roche) Smith in 1949. He was a longtime Tulsa resident where he had a distinguished career as a clinical psychologist and counselor with the Tulsa Psychiatric Center, specializing in the treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse. Later, he was employed by the State of Oklahoma to review and testify in criminal cases on inmate competency issues. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army for four years, attaining the rank of sergeant. After being honorably discharged he married Irene Roche. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS, MS and PhD degrees. He moved to Tulsa in 1963 to begin his career. He is survived by his wife of 58 years of Tulsa; two daughters, Susan Mullen, Houston, Texas and Sandra Gardner, Tulsa; one son, Spenser Smith, Tulsa; five grandchildren, Kristen McMackin, Leslie Mullen, Jay Mullen, Lindsay Gardner and Brooke Gardner and one great grandson, Will McMackin.
