Services for Ralph Eugene Watson, 80, were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. William E. Malphrus officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery with Krien Funeral Home, Sulphur, in charge of arrangements. Born March 5, 1926 in O'Donnell, Texas to Gene and Vera Gladys (King) Watson, he died Thursday, June 22 in Ardmore. He moved with his family from O'Donnell, Texas to Dougherty at the age of six and graduated from Dougherty High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Nathalia Chaffin on July 5, 1947, in Sulphur. In 1948, the couple moved to Sulphur where he would take over the plant manager duties of Kraft Foods for 28 years and one-half years. He later served as public works director for the City of Sulphur for 11 years. Ralph also served 18 years as one of the directors for the Murray County Conservation District and as county director for Farm Bureau for many years. During retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, watching football and especially watching his grandchildren play ball. He also took pleasure in woodworking, tinkering in his shop, farming and raising cattle. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the last surviving charter member of the Sulphur/Davis Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Nathalia, of the home; one son, Russell Watson and his wife, Edie, Sulphur; one daughter, Ruth Ann Shores, and husband, David, Sulphur; three grandchildren, Luke and wife, Lisa, Travis Watson and Sarah Shores, all of Sulphur; two great grandchildren, Gage and Reagan Watson, both of Sulphur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Vera Watson and one brother, Byron King Watson. Pallbearers were Russell Watson, David Shores, Luke Watson and Travis Watson.
