NANCY BENGE, Fort Gibson, Okla. Admitted. Grandmother of applicant, NANCY BALDRIDGE, enrolled in 1851, in Going Snake District, #4. Uncle of applicant, RUNABOUT BALDRIDGE, and Aunt LUCY BALDRIDGE, enrolled in Going Snake District, #1 and #3, respectively. Misc. Test. P. 4178. "I am 63 years of age. I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I was born in Flint District and raised Going Snake District. I was living in G. S. District in 1851. I was enrolled at that time and my parents drew money for me at the time. It was Emigrant money. I drew it at this place, Ft. Gibson. Both of my parents were living in 1851. My maiden name was BREWSTER and it must have been by that name that I drew money. I am the oldest. I had a sister named MARY, another SARAH, another DELILAH or POLLY. My father was a Mexican. I got my Cherokee blood from my mother, PEGGY BREWSTER. MARGARET was her English name. RUNABOUT BALDRIDGE was the name of one of my mother's brothers. She had another brother but I believe he was killed in 1851. There is another brother who lived in Illinois District. His name was CAPTAIN BALDRIDGE. There is another named HAWK. CAPTAIN BALDRIDGE was killed in the war. I don't know what other name he had. Gah-now-saw-ski (? blurred) was the Indian name for CAPTAIN BALDRIDGE. He was only a half brother of my mother. GEORGE BALDRIDGE was the name of my grandfather. He had brothers but I don't know their names. He was killed in 1846. NANCY BALDRIDGE was the name of my grandmother and she lived in Going Snake District in 1851. She didn't die until 1862 or 1863. I have never received benefits from any other tribe of Indians than the Cherokees. I got land here through the Dawes Commission. I got the breat and strip payment. My mother was not an Old Settler." Signed: NANCY BENGE. CAROLINE BOUDINOT..in behalf of above: "I am 79 years of age. I know the applicant. I came to this country in 1834. I was an Old Settler and the applicant's parents came West two years after I did - it was after the treaty. I new the applicant from the time that she was six years old....I wasn't present myself when they drew the money in 1851, but I have heard them speaking of it. I was in school in 1837 and the appliant's grandmother's children were entered in school at that time. I taught school and the applicant went to school to me. I know that these people are recognized as Emigrant Cherokee Indians." SIGNED: CAROLINE BOUDINOT, Ft. Gibson, Okla, Mar 24 1909. ROLL P29 #4862 FCT COMM #22068 - NANCY BENGE - 61 Kenyon Littles
