App. # 1231-Interpreter used-Peter Adair: "My name is Peter Adair. My age is 56 years. I was born and raised in Flint District. I have not lived in any other District. I got the bread and strip payments. I was enrolled by the Dawes Commission Cherokee Roll # 1735. I think some of my people were Old Settlers. I did not understand the question at first and do not think any of them were Old Settlers. My father's name was Ju-nu-lu-skey. My father never had any English name. I don't know how I got the name of Adair. I have no brothers or sisters older than myself but a half-sister younger. My father had a brother named Squirrel and So-lo-le Oo-goo-coo-hoo. Squirrel lived at Long Prairie in Goingsnake District. I do not know whether he ever lived in any other District. His wife's name was Saw-kinaney or Sally. He was sometimes called Red Squirrel or Squirrel Red Sa-lo-le Ge-goo-cah. He lived in Goingsnake District. He came to this District. I never heard of Quah-lah-yoo-gah nor Ailsey. (147 GS) Squirrel once lived in Flint Distirct and came in here before drawing that money. Squirrel had a son by the name of Young Beaver but he would not be 60 years old. He had a brother by the name of Oo-na-gah and Oo-goo-coo-hoo (my father's brothers). My mother's name was Ah-naw-hih. Squirrel had a daughter by the name of Susannah but she was not 60 years old. To-you-ne-tah was Squirrel's son but would not be 60 years. My father's name was Ju-nu-lus-key, and his brother Squirrel. (203 Flint) Chu-noo-lees-kie.) Oo-goo-coo-hoo or Owl came out of Goingsnake District into Flint; do not know whether he ever lived in any other district but he traveled around a great deal. (795 Del.) My father's father's name was Wee-lih or William Wasp. He died back in the old country. He would be very old if living now. Don't know how long he has been dead. He never came West. My father was about 67 when he died and would be in the 80's if living. (Wee-lih C. 854.) I don't know any brothers or sisters of Wee-lih. My mother's name was Ah-nah-hih or Ah-no-he. She is dead; died shortly after the Emigrant payment. She was enrolled and drew money in 1851. She had a sister name Jinney. A brother named Ker-kee or Coon. He lived in Flint District. A brother Yah-sah; Buffalo in English. Ah-han-yah lived in Flint District. Don't know if she was known by any other name. I had a sister by the name of Rachel daughter of Ah-na-ho who was older than I am. (204 Flint.) Do not know Wut-ty. My mother's father was Kee-nah or Kee-ner, or Che-nah. He lived in Flint District. My mother's mother's name was Takey. She lived in Flint. It may be-Ta-kee or Ta-ke. I do not know whether she lived in any other District. She had a sister by the name of Betsy or Quaitsey.
