Your grandmother’s name was Martha Cloud-but she married Buck in the state of Georgia, before she came to Indian Territory. She lived in Goingsnake District or Delaware District in 1851. Your grandmother and my mother were half-sisters. My mother, Alcy Townsend was an Old Settler. Your grandmother was an emigrant Cherokee. I don’t know whether your mother was old enough to draw emigrant money in 1851 or not. But your Aunt Eliza Ward was. Your grandfather was a white man. But your grandmother was nearly a full blood Cherokee. They all came to the Indian Territory as Emigrants Cherokees. My mother Alcy Townsend came as Old Settlers. I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I get my Indian Blood from my mother. I got the strip payment. I also got land through the Dawes Commission, No. 22033. I have never received benefits from any other tribe of Indians than the Cherokees. Nancy Beck was the maiden name of my mother . She married Hampton. I do not know where she was born. She would be somewhere in the forties if she were living at this time. My mother got her Indian blood through her mother, Martha Beck. I think she was on the ’51 roll by that name. My mother had a sister name Eliza Beck. She married a Ward. My grandmother’s name was Green or Cloud at one time. My grandmother lived in Flint District or Goingsnake District in 1851. I don’t know whether my grandmother had any brothers of not. She had a half sister, Ailsey Townsend. She had a daughter named Susie. I did not draw any Old Settler money, nor did any of my ancestors that I know of. I drew the grass money. Sarah Beck was a sister of my mother and I am sure that she is enrolled on the 1851 roll. My grandmother had an Indian name but I don’t know what it was. It means ‘green’ in English. My mother had two other sisters named Betty and Cherokee. I don’t know whether my grandmother was married before she came to this country or not. Sarah Beck was born in Georgia. She came out here with my grandmother and she died in this country. Our grandparents was Eastern Cherokees. They did not draw any Old Settlers money. My mother in 1851 was Martha Beck, lived in Goingsnake District in Cherokee Nation. Her Indian name was ‘Chow-ar-u-ka’. Her children’s names.. Sarah Ann Beck, Eliza and Samantha Cherokee , Nancy and Margaret Elizabeth. My husbands name is William Giles Ward. Your mother’s first husband was John Smith. Her second, William Bradford Hampton. Aaron Beck is my cousin, he is blind. This leaves all well so I’m in a hurry will close. your Aunt Eliza Ward.
