Died Nov 9th 1890 Buried at Scullyville Cemetery. He enlisted at the age of 19 (Sugar Loaf County) First regiment of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifle in Company C under his brother Captain Jackson F McCurtain after he came out of the Army he made a home in Sam Bois Indian Territory. He married Susan (King) McCurtain in 1862. Edmund and Susan had three daughters Pauline McCurtain (My Grandmother) born August 17 1863,Kittie McCurtain born in 1865 and Jennie McCurtain born in 1871. At the age of 24 Edmund was elected judge of the Sam Bois. Edmund McCurtain was elected Principal Chief From 1884 to 1886 then Senator from Sam Bois in 1888. He served as Superintendent of Education at the time there were no Universities or Colleges within the I.T. but it was to the great credit of Edmund McCurtain that many Choctaw youth were sent to Harvard and Yale. The fourth child of Cornelius McCurtain III and Mahayia Belvins. Edmund McCurtain came from a long line of Prominent People.
