He was 83 years old when he died at his home in Wagoner in 1983. No information was given on details of his date of death, funeral services, or when or where he was buried. He was born into the prominent Bruner family and his father was Superintendent of the Coweta Government Mission. The Bruner Cemetery, which was his family’s cemetery, has been recognized by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The younger Bruner played with Jim THORPE, the famous Sac and Fox athlete, at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS. Upon his graduation (from Haskell), Bruner was employed by Bert HODGES, a newspaperman in Okmulgee. He later was a printer for the Wagoner Record Democrat and Wagoner Tribune for 50 years, working both with handset and hot metal type. He also was Creek interpreter at Wagoner District Court. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara JAMES of Tulsa; two sisters, Beatrice BRUNER and Jeannie SMITH, both of Coweta; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
