He died December 1, 1995, at his home in Muskogee. A private funeral service was held December 7 at Butler Creek Baptist Church. No information was given on the place of interment. He became a performer under the name of Escoe LaRue, and during his career, which spanned from America’s vaudeville in the 30s to Europe and the Ice Capades, he performed with such entertainers as Jimmy Durante, George Burns, John Barrymore, and Bob Hope. After his retirement, he volunteered at Muskogee Little Theater, the local Toastmasters, and Muscogee Indian Community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter James and Sarah Marcum ESCOE; two sisters, Leona BECKHAM and Lois ESCOE; and a daughter, Linda Lois ESCOE. He was survived by his wife, Martha “Trixie” Firschke ESCOE, whom he married on October 9, 1946, in Cleveland, OH; daughters, Leigh BUILTER of Greenwich, CN, Vicky KELLY of Mukwonago, WI, Kathleen Escoe SURBEY and Christie ESCOE, both of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Michael ESCOE of Temple City, CA, and Mecko ESCOE (no location given); two brothers, Walter Jay ESCOE of Wichita, KS, and Hershel ESCOE of Ft. Gibson; a sister, Grace JONES of Muskogee; and grandchildren Tommy BOWEN, and Seth, Nikko, and Joshua ESCOE; and many other relatives and friends.
